Kasempa Lunga Luswishi is one of Zambia’s largest hunting concessions and covers a staggering 6,000 sq miles of pristine wilderness. Two great river systems – the Kafue and Lunga adjoin the area and provide ideal habitats for a wide variety of animal species. The GMA consists mainly of open grassy areas called dambos which are interspersed with woodland and thickets and is widely considered in hunting circles to be an excellent general bag area.
The area is famous for huge dark maned Lions and the New Zambian Record Leopard was taken there in 2004. Sought after species such as Roan, outstanding Sable and world class Defassa Waterbuck roam the woodland areas. In addition, Litchenstein’s Hartebeest, Eland, Zebra, Puku, Reedbuck, Oribi, Impala and Warthog are abundant throughout the vast grassy plains and dambo systems. It is not uncommon to be able to view hundreds of animals each day. The rivers harbor scattered populations of Hippo and some monster Crocodiles and the riverside thickets provide a safe refuge for Chobe Bushbuck, Bushpig and Kudu. Buffalo, although not common can be found in the more isolated expanses of the concession. Buffalo hunting here is certainly only for the more adventurous who are willing to hunt hard and overnight in remote spike camps.
Sitatunga hunting has just been opened in Kasempa Lunga Luswishi and we boast a 100% success rate on this highly elusive and sought after species. The trophy quality too is exceptional and often over twenty Sitatunga can be seen in an evening. Coupled with the fact that Sitatunga is fast becoming increasingly hard to come by it makes this GMA a prime destination for this species.
Kafue Flats and Bangweulu Swamps are areas of striking beauty and provide unrivaled hunting opportunities for the Kafue and Black Lechwe respectively. Herds of Lechwe well in excess of 1,000 frequent the grassy plains and the total population of both species is believed to number over 40,000. Is there a world record out there?
