Hunt Description
Australia is rapidly becoming a deer-hunters mecca, with so many difficult-to-obtain Asian species like sambar, rusa and hog deer as well as record-class red stags, fallow, axis and elk – to rival all other hunting destinations around the world. Hunt Australia utilises many excellent game ranches in south-eastern Australia, including an exclusive private hunting estate within 2 hours drive of Melbourne. About 25% of the area is covered with thick bush.. Your guide is highly experienced in this area and knows where and how to find the biggest trophies at this and other quality game ranches in the area.
4WD vehicles are used to access the hunting areas where spot
and stalk hunting methods are the favoured hunting technique. While reasonable
amounts of easy walking are required, physically challenged hunters or
bow-hunters can enjoy hunting on this property.
.
Accommodation is at a
new luxury lodge facility and we provide high quality family-type meals with
cold beer and wines. Your guide will meet you at Melbourne airport, which has
direct flights from the east coast of the USA and by connections to Europe.
Hunting Season
Red Stag, Fallow and Axis bucks are in hard antler by the beginning of February while Sambar and Rusa Stags are out of velvet by end of April. The best time to hunt all of these species together is April until August.
Rifles
As longer range shots are often required, flat shooting rifles like a 7mmMag or 300 magnums are our choice of caliber. Sambar deer are notoriously tough to kill and heavier magnum caliber scoped rifles with heavier premium grade bullets are most desirable. If you would like to bring your own rifles and ammunition to Australia, we will pre-arrange your import permits before your holiday begins (a minimum of 2 months notice required for permits to be received in a timely manner before your departure). No handguns, automatic or semi-automatic rifles allowed. We have excellent quality suitable rifles available for hire if you would prefer this option.
Recommended Equipment & Clothing
The climate in this area is described as dry temperate. During February, daily maximum temperature will range up to 85 degrees F with cooler night time temperatures. In June, which is our winter, daily temperatures will range up to 65 degrees F. The rainy season is from July to September, but it can rain at any time throughout the year.
From February until April, we recommend lightweight dark cotton camouflage clothing with a light jacket for early morning and late evening hunting. During May to July, warmer clothes will be required with warm hat, outer jacket and gloves for very early mornings. Comfortable walking boots and good quality binoculars are essential. We also strongly suggest that you take out travel insurance to cover your entire trip.
