THE ADVENTURE BEGINS!!!
4-21-08

It's now the 3rd week of April, man where have the past 4 months gone to?? It's unbelievable, as I get older, (36 in May) times just go by faster and faster!! One thing's for sure though, spring is here, and spring means bear hunting! Come Saturday I'm off to B.C., and a new adventure for both myself and GHR begins.

My long-time friend, and sometimes hunting companion, Michael Waddell.  Has graciously asked myself, Corey and GHR to play an integral role in his NEW Television show airing January 2009, called "BONE COLLECTORS" Over the next 5 months I will embark on numerous hunting adventures with the Bone Collectors team, including our first gig starting next week, hunting coastal Black Bear with Abe Dougan, of Big Boar Outfitters.  Our role here at Global Hunting Resources, is to help Michael and his cronnies, arrange some of the finest hunting adventures around the globe.  I can assure you, there won't be a dull moment.  First off, co-host Nick Mundt and I will be doing the bear hunt together.  Then I head to Africa in late May, as many of you know, my favorite place on earth!! Over the course of 7 weeks, I will be doing 3 different safaris, starting in Zimbabwe, then Nick and I will join together again for a Namibian Leopard/Plains game hunt, and we will finish it off in Botswana.  Where Michael and I will be hunting 2on1 for Huge Buffalo, and the Big Tuskers that Botswana is famous for! Michael has never before hunted in Africa for anything other than plains game, so a buffalo hunt for him is going to be out of this world.  I hope to improve on the only elephant I have ever shot, a 40 pounder in Zimbabwe about 6 years ago.  In Namibia we will be with an outfitter we have been hunting with for years, Hentie Van Heerden of Van Heerden Safaris.  The Botswana hunt is arranged with one of the top outfitting companies in all of Africa, Swanepoel & Scandrol! The Chobe Enclave in Botswana is famous for quality animals, man I sure hope I can get that 70 plus pounder I have always dreamed of! Some of you may have seen the photos of the HUGE lion I shot in Botswana in August 2007, if not, have a look at the NEWS section of the website, I have pictures and a brief story about the hunt!

After Africa, and an exciting summer.  Corey and I head to Mongolia in late August, Corey plan's to take both the Hangai Argali & the Gobi Argali on one hunt, and perhaps both of us will be looking for an Ibex along the way.  Mainly I am there to film the hunts, and keep Corey out of jail, which honestly sometimes can be a real chore! He's bitten with the sheep bug though, so I guess I will tag along and try and lend a hand! I never have gotten the sheep thing, although I have shot a couple of them myself and of course guided numerous Bighorn hunts in Colorado back when I outfitted there.  But, when you have shot 8 African Lions, and continue to plan for more, who am I to say he's obsessive?? Then it's back to the states and some more fun with the "Bone Collectors" gang! I will be hosting a couple of Antelope Hunts for the show, most likely Michael and I will be doing the hunting in mid-September.  Then immediately following that, we jump in the truck, drive straight to my ELK ranch I lease in unit 10 and hunt archery elk for a week.  Hopefully a couple of good hunts for the SHOW, and of course a little fun along the way as well.

October will have me home in Colorado where I will help Sean Sander of Royal Mountain Adventures, guide Antelope & Deer hunts.  Of course however, I need to make time for my own hunting as I hope to have a special Antelope tag in early October that I used 9 points to draw.  Secondly, I am keeping my fingers crossed as I have 2 elk points and am trying to draw a not so well known area for BIG BULL ELK.  Over the past few years, Sean, myself and some of our friends have been seeing and shooting some very big bulls in this area.  The largest so far was a 390" bull, and Sean's wife shot her first elk a couple of years ago in this same area that went 381", so I am hoping for a little luck!! The elk hunt takes place in mid - October, then hopefully I draw my deer tag for the following week, and will be hunting high mountain muleys, for the first time in a couple of years.  My last mountain tag for deer was in 2003 when I shot a 180" buck by Eagle, Colorado.  This year I am hoping I can improve on that, and maybe, finally, get another 200" plus buck.  I have in fact shot one, but it's been a long time, I can't hardly remember what it was like.

As always, I will be at my ranch house in eastern Colorado starting in late October, where I will guide for Royal Mountain Adventures.  For the past decade or more, I have guided the plains of Colorado and over the years we have shot some huge bucks.  We only allow 3-4 rifle hunters at the ranch house each year, if we don't shoot at least one Muley over 200" and at least one Whitetail over 170", I will be very surprised.  The area without a doubt, has become one of the greatest deer hunting spots on the planet.  Of course bowhunting will be done throughout November, and finally I finish the year with a trip to Mexico.  Corey and I head to Baja where he will hunt for a Desert Bighorn, and I am going after a Blacktail.  A close, personal friend of mine has the sheep & deer tags, and it promises to be quite a hunt!!

Keep checking my blog, as we continue to return from the hunts we will post the successes of the trips along with pictures, and of course inform you of all the details.  It promises to be an exciting year for GLOBAL HUNTING RESOURCES, we certainly hope you can be a part of it!

Good Hunting,
Aaron Neilson
